This week, Udoblog continues in the fashion world, this time showcasing The Urban Thrift, an online clothing store owned by Orekha Olos.
Orekha describes herself as an educator who enjoys listening to music, reading and watching movies. She is a Nigerian resident. She decided to launch The Urban Thrift in 2018 after she saw an opportunity to provide women with affordable, high quality clothing options. Her female clothing portfolio boasts of thrifted clothing as cheap as NGN700 (wow!). Currently, the business is located in Lagos, but nationwide delivery is available.

According to the owner, the biggest problem faced so far at The Urban Thrift was the initially slow sales. But sales have since picked up and it looks like the only way is up for Orekha at this point. She mentioned that there has been huge progress between business launch and now; so much so that she is happy at the current level she is at right now. Despite the fact that she is somewhat satisfied with current business levels; she keeps working hard to improve because she believes that growth and development is a constant cycle. Orekha’s vision for The Urban Thrift for the next couple of years is simple; remarkable progress. To get to this level, she does daily research and thinks of development strategies round the clock. Impressive dedication considering that she considers this a side hustle. According to Orekha, one of the factors that has helped with business growth is good client interaction. Customers 100% make or break the business and you must interact with them keeping that in mind. Even for difficult customers, her advice is to exercise full patience and diplomacy. Another factor is keeping her wares affordable while offering high quality goods. Did we mention the NGN700 clothes she has?

Like most online business owners, Orekha believes that Nigeria needs to improve its business laws if it wants to become a thriving business hub. Currently, she believes that the constantly changing business laws do not favour budding businesses. She does advice those businesses being hit hard though, that patience and consistence coupled with perseverance is the best way to get to a level where the law becomes in your favour.
Being a woman, Orekha mentions that she is one of the lucky few that have not been harassed by male customers. She does acknowledge the fact that this is an issue and she believes women should support each other at any given opportunity. Our take on this remains the same, men must do better. As a nation, we need to educate our sons on what is appropriate behaviour towards women.
